Supreme Court Law Clerk Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 90 Posts

The Supreme Court of India (SCI) has released an official notification for the recruitment of Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate posts for the year 2026–27. A total of around 90 vacancies are to be filled on a purely contractual basis. This recruitment is an excellent opportunity for fresh and final-year law graduates to gain direct exposure to judicial research and legal drafting at the highest court of the country.

Eligible candidates can apply online only through the official website www.sci.gov.in from 20 January 2026 to 7 February 2026. Selected candidates will receive a consolidated remuneration of ₹1,00,000 per month.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must fulfill one of the following:

  • Must be a Law Graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, including Integrated Law Courses, from a recognized university approved by the Bar Council of India.

  • Final year students of:

    • 5-year Integrated Law Course

    • 3-year Law Course (after graduation)
      are also eligible, provided they submit proof of qualification before joining.

Additional Skills

Candidates should possess:

  • Strong legal research and analytical ability

  • Good writing and drafting skills

  • Working knowledge of legal databases such as SCC Online, Manupatra, LexisNexis, Westlaw, e-SCR, etc.

  • Basic computer proficiency.

Nature of Engagement

  • This is a full-time contractual assignment for the term 2026–2027.

  • The engagement does not guarantee permanent employment in the Supreme Court.

  • Law Clerks are not allowed to practice as advocates during the assignment.

  • No other professional assignment is permitted during the contract period.

  • Candidates may be posted in Judges’ Chambers, Registry Offices, Courts or Residential Offices as per administrative requirement.

  • Working hours may include odd hours and holidays.

Selection Process

The selection will be conducted in three stages:

Part I – Objective Test (Online)

  • Multiple Choice Questions

  • Minimum qualifying marks: 60%

  • Negative marking: 0.25 per wrong answer

Part II – Descriptive Test

  • Analytical and legal writing test

  • Answer sheet written in pen-paper mode

Part III – Interview

  • Candidates shortlisted in ratio 1:3 against vacancies

  • Final merit based on overall performance

Test Centres

The written examination will be conducted in 23 cities, including:

Ahmedabad, Ambala, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Visakhapatnam.

No TA/DA will be paid.

Facility for PwD Candidates

  • PwD candidates can avail scribe facility by submitting prescribed annexure.

  • The scribe must not be a law graduate.

  • Supporting documents must be produced during examination and verification.

General Instructions

  • Applications once submitted cannot be modified or withdrawn.

  • Admit card does not guarantee selection.

  • Multiple applications: Only the latest submission will be considered.

  • Any false information will result in cancellation of candidature.

  • Legal jurisdiction for disputes: Delhi only.

  • Final authority rests with Hon’ble Chief Justice of India.
